Recap: Olympics in Germany – A Chance for Sports, Economy, and Society?

12.12.2025

On Wednesday, December 10, the International Law and Business Student Federation e.V. (ILBSF) hosted the first event of its new lecture series with a talk by Prof. Dr. Markus Kurscheidt, an expert in sports economics, governance, and event management.

In his lecture, Prof. Kurscheidt examined the potential impact of hosting the Olympic Games in Germany from a sports economics perspective. He discussed both the opportunities and challenges associated with organizing a major sporting event of this scale, including possible economic effects such as infrastructure development and tourism, as well as financial risks.

The lecture also addressed the importance of effective communication and public support for large-scale sporting events, as well as the question of which German cities or regions might offer suitable conditions for hosting the Olympic Games.

We would like to thank Prof. Dr. Markus Kurscheidt for an insightful and engaging lecture and for contributing to a successful first event in our series. We are already looking forward to continuing the discussion next year, when the Olympic Games in Germany will be examined from a legal perspective.
