On Tuesday, January 20, the International Law and Business Student Federation e.V. (ILBSF) continued its lecture series with a presentation by Prof. Dr. Ben Köhler, who explored the role of sports arbitration in the Olympic context.
In his lecture, Prof. Dr. Köhler explained how the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) operates and why it plays a central role in resolving disputes in international sport. He highlighted the significance of Olympic arbitration for athletes, sports federations, and major sporting events.
The presentation also addressed key legal principles of sports arbitration. Using the Field of Play Doctrine and the widely discussed Chiles case as examples, Prof. Dr. Köhler illustrated the limits of reviewing sporting decisions and the role of the CAS in maintaining fairness and legal certainty in international sport.
We would like to thank Prof. Dr. Köhler for the insightful lecture and all participants for the engaging discussion.
