Olympics in Germany – A Chance for Sports, Economy, and Society?
02.12.2025
The debate over a potential Olympic bid for Germany has gained significant momentum in recent months. Following a recent referendum, a majority voted in favor of Munich’s bid for the Summer Olympics in 2036, 2040, or 2044. Additionally, regions such as Rhein-Ruhr, Berlin, and Hamburg are showing strong interest. The key question remains: Which city offers the best conditions for hosting the Games – and what societal, economic, and political opportunities could the Olympics bring to Germany?
This and other crucial topics will be addressed by Prof. Dr. Markus Kurscheidt, one of the leading experts in sports economics, governance, and event management. In his lecture, he will provide insights from current sports economics research, presenting key concepts and offering thought-provoking perspectives on a potential Olympic bid for Germany.
