On Tuesday, January 13, the International Law and Business Student Federation e.V. (ILBSF) hosted another event in its lecture series on the Olympic Games in Germany. Prof. Dr. Heermann provided a legal perspective on the protection of Olympic terms, symbols, and advertising.
In his lecture, Prof. Dr. Heermann explained which Olympic-related expressions and symbols are legally protected under the German Olympic Protection Act (OlympSchG) and what companies are allowed to do in their marketing. He showed that while the law sets clear boundaries to prevent unauthorized associations with the Olympic Games, it still leaves room for lawful and creative advertising concepts.
The lecture offered valuable insights into the legal framework surrounding Olympic branding and highlighted potential legal risks for companies in advertising.
We would like to thank Prof. Dr. Heermann for the informative presentation and all participants for the engaging discussion. The presentation from the lecture can be found on our LinkedIn profile.
